Synopsis: The Fire Cycle is a multidisciplinary artwork consisting of films, poetry, music, and visual art. It's a call to stop, to breathe, to return to elemental things and the ritual of the year. This short film accompanies both a poem and song titled "A Reading From the Book of Regenesis," which sets the stage for The Fire Cycle—a regenerative cycle in which large fires cause changes in weather that can lead to other fires, elsewhere. In the process, they bring life and take it away.

Our Mission

Defy Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2016 with the goal of bringing bold and extraordinary cinematic work from around the world to East Nashville. The festival celebrates unconventional films made by filmmakers who want to defy traditions and expectations. The festival is driven by the desire to bring unknown talent from around the world to Nashville audiences that are looking for a unique cinematic experience. Defy puts the work and the artist above all else. All great art is a disruption. You can support Defy with a one-time or recurring donation, and help us continue bringing defiant films from all over the world to Nashville.
