Synopsis:
The Three Clairs documents a coven I stumbled upon in the summery forests of southern Finland.
Artist Statement:
This film is a visual poem, an incantation woven from seemingly random experiences that reveal their hidden connections. It explores the relationship between objects, landscapes, and gestures - each a vessel of spiritual mystery, each carrying the potential to transform the everyday into the sacred.
Time, in this work, is not linear but a guideline, a fluid thread dissolving and coagulating. Moving between field and forest - consciousness and unconsciousness - the film invites lucidity - as in the state of being filled with light - where presence and intention become ritual.
Inspired by Aradia: Gospel of the Witches, the film documents a coven I stumbled upon in the summery forests of southern Finland, each frame infused with gentle magic. Structured in suits aligned with the elements, the film functions as a grimoire, documenting a path of true will. I imagined the distortions of the footage are a manifestation of the coven’s magical field interfering with my JVC camcorder, as if it was an imprint of their presence, a visual residue of the spellwork that lingers within the film’s frames.
The ideal viewing experience is outdoors, in a circle, with tokens of each element placed at their cardinal directions, transforming the act of watching into an act of charging. Through eurythmy-inspired movement to build spiritual awareness, non-linear storytelling, and an intimate relationship with the objects that populate our lives, this film seeks to cast very specific intentions. Because, in the end, everything is a spell.
